Saving money for a down payment on a home is no easy feat, which is why I started looking into various ways to make sure that I had things sorted out like I should. I began working with a real estate agent to chat about what to do and how to start saving, and they explained how much I needed if I wanted to avoid private mortgage insurance, and when the market typically trended upwards. It was really neat for me to see everything I could do with the advice, and saving became easier after I had a clear goal. Find out more about real estate by reading this blog.

After you list your house for sale with a real estate agency, you will need to work really hard to keep it clean and in show-ready condition, as you never know when you will receive requests for showings. Additionally, you should make a plan for what you must do just before leaving your house for each showing, and here are some of the things you may want to add to your list.
Touch it up
You should run through the entire house looking at each room to make sure the rooms are clean and that they look nice. As you do this, you may need to touch things up in some of the rooms. For example, if a bed is not made, you should quickly make it. If a mirror has spots on it, you should clean it. If your house is clean, it should not take long to run through each room and touch up the small details that you see that might be distracting to potential buyers.
Open up the windows
While you may not want to open the actual windows, you should open up the window treatments, and you should make sure you clean your windows each week, simply so that they are clean for showings. Opening up the window treatments will allow more sunlight to enter in and may even create a more spacious look in the rooms in your home.
Turn on the lights
It is also important to turn on the lights before you leave. If it is the middle of the day and is very sunny outside, you might not want to turn all the lights on, but you should at least turn lights on in areas of the house that are not as well lit as you would like them to be. Adding more light can make a house look more appealing to anyone that comes to see it.
Remove signs of pets
If you have pets, you might need to go through one additional step before you leave, which involves removing all signs that pets live in your house. If you have a dog or cat, this is very important. You must remove the pet food and water dishes, cat boxes, and toys, and you should grab your pets and bring them with you.
Creating a checklist for things you should do just before leaving for showings is a great way to reminder everything and leave your house looking its best. Your real estate agent can give you additional tips for preparing your house for showings.
